The University owns and operates more than 1,300 apartments throughout the neighborhood for lease to graduate students. A spirit of cooperation, both among the tenants and between landlord and tenant, is the norm in the apartments. Students who reside in the University-owned buildings enjoy a unique environment in which the landlord strives to provide a pleasant and comfortable apartment and is committed to being the student¹s advocate should a problem arise. The units -- located in three-story walk-ups and elevator buildings of up to twelve stories -- come in a great many sizes and styles. They range in size from studios to three bedrooms. Larger apartments are generally rented to families. Many studios and some one-bedroom units are furnished. Heat and water are always included in the rent. Most buildings have storage and bike rooms.
Area A: Closer to Shopping Buildings in Area A are primarily taller (four- to twelve-story), elevator-equipped buildings. Most are located slightly northeast of campus, very close to shopping and public transportation. Apartments in these buildings generally have more closet space than units in walk-up buildings. Area C: Closer to Campus Most Area C units are in three-story walk-ups that, though a bit farther from the business district, are generally closer to campus. Many of the buildings feature enclosed sun porches and large rooms with more floor space. Residents and interns may prefer units in one of the buildings close to the Medical Center. Business, law, and SSA students may wish to consider the units on 60th or 61st streets because of their proximity to those schools. |
